Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, little town that is a bit sleepy. The West Island can be confusing to people unfamiliar with its meaning. Many people believe that it's an island located that lies west of Montreal However, it's actually the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities of Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel's birthplace is frequently cited, however her short time in the city did not last long. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa the city of Ontario. Early ambitions were to become an expert dancer. However, a growth spurt caused her to outgrow her dance partners she had. In an article published in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6'1 inch. As I got bigger than my male partners, I quit. Numerous former dancers choose to become actors. In Brugel's case, it was the encouragement from her drama teacher at high school that led her to the path she needed. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to go after a role in the annual school production. She was able to audition and be cast in the role of Anne of Green Gables. It led to an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and graduated with an Associate in Fine Arts degree in 2000. In the last 20 years, the roles played by Brugel on TV and the big screen have varied. The character of Rita from the award winning series The Handmaid's Tale was her most memorable. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor on the show in the season 1 and only appeared on occasion.
